LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

The year 2016 is the 14th on the path of the Journal of Biotechnology establishment and development. The Journal has become a prestigious national leading scientific journal in biotechnology and related fields.

By implementation of the new Regulation of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology on the Organization and Management of scientific journals, new Editorial Board of the Journal of Biotechnology for the 2016-2020 tenure has been strengthened. Notably, the Editorial Board has been increased from 24 to 39 members, with the participation of 14 scientists from the institutions of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, 14 scientists from leading universities, research institutions and hospitals in the country. Especially, for the first time, the Editorial Board has 10 foreign scientists (the United States, Germany, France, Japan, Norway and Sri Lanka) and 1 oversea Vietnamese scientist. This is one of the important prerequisites for gradually improving quality and enhancing the visibility of the Journal for national and international readers.

The Editorial Board would like to thank Prof. Le Tran Binh, co-founder and first Editor-in-Chief of the Journal during the past 13 years since its establishment, for his tremendous and dedicated works for the development of the Journal. We hope that he will continue to accompany and contribute his valuable experience to the Journal as an Editorial Board member of the new term. We also sincerely thank all the Editorial Board members of the previous term, who by decision of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology do not continue to participate in the Editorial Board of this term, for their significant contributions to the development of the Journal in recent years.

Implementing the project for enhancing Journal quality standards to match those of Scopus, in addition to gradually strengthening international members to the Editorial Board, the Journal of Biotechnology is upgrading its Website and instructions for Online submission and processing including reviewers’ reports and editorial decision on manuscripts. The Journal archives will be fully digitized and converted to Open Access for readers. Starting from number (issue) 1, volume 14, 2016, the published articles will receive standard DOI. The articles accepted for publication in the next issues can also be uploaded Online (author's names, affiliations and abstracts).

Important factors influencing the success of the Journal are the number and quality of manuscripts. The Journal of Biotechnology hopes to receive an increasing number of research papers of high quality from strong national and international research groups. Although the Journal is bilingual allowing articles published both in Vietnamese and English languages, but with the purpose of promoting the latest research results in biotechnology and related fields of Vietnam to national and international readers, forthcoming issues strongly encourage articles to be written in English. In addition to English articles in regular issues, the Journal plans to publish at least one full issue in English per year. The international members of the Editorial Board will help with the English language editing for the Journal.

Editorial Board would like to thank our authors and readers for their continuous interests and contributions to the Journal in the past and look forward to your strong supports in the new development period.
