A study on extraction and determination some bioactivities of flavonoid extract from Houttuynia cordata Thunberg cultivating in Hanoi city

Houttuynia cordata Thunb. is a medicinal plant in Vietnam, has many biological activities including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial and immunological effects. The active components in H. cordata are flavonoids. In this study, the H. cordata extract was obtained by water and alcohol. Then, total flavonoids, anti-microbial and anti-oxidant effects of H. cordata extract were determined. The results shown that,
H. cordata ethanolic extract had total flavonoids content more than H. cordata water extract, 2.19% and 0.83%, respectively. Rutin and quercetin content in ethanolic extract was 0.14% and 0.01% (g/g dried
H. cordata extract). Moreover, H. cordata ethanolic extract could inhibit four bacterial strains including
E. coli, P. aerugninosa, B. subtillis and S. aureus. Anti-oxidant effects of H. cordata ethanolic extract reached 61.23%, SC50 was 19.56 mg/ml.
