Abstract

Necessity of a proper view on potential of geothermal resource of Viet Nam

The Vietnamese territory lacks essential geostructural and tectonic premises to form large geothermal field which
enables to create a strong geothermal energy branch as countries lying on mobile belts of this planet. However, it is an
area which has relatively high potential of low- and medium- enthalpy geothermal resources. Advantage of this
geothermal type is to have largely distributing area and value of direct use in diverse fields of production and life.
Therefore, this should be considered as main development direction of Vietnamese geothermal branch. Although
electricity generation based on low and medium enthalpy geothermal sources is not the main field, it should be given
proper attention to develop some small experimental plants to explore the techno-economic efficiencies, which is the
background for future orientation.
With a proper view on natural resources potentiality and such right direction, we are able to create a geothermal
energy branch developing efficiently with its potentiality, which contributes in other forms of energy to serve best
requirements of economy and people’s livelihood.
