Abstract

Summary: Alluvial sediments of coastal estuaries from Ba Lat to to Day river mouths were formed in the river-sea environments, related to sea retrogression process from Late Holocene to the present day.

Sediments are common with the predominant clay, clay-aleuvrolite, clay-aleuvrolite-sand up to 70% to 85% in both area and depth. Sediment at the mouth of Ba Lat are finer, mainly clay, clay- aleurite, while at the mouths of Day and Hai Hau, sediments are coarser with predominant of aleurite -sand, aleurite-clay. In Hai Hau also appeared "clay pebbles"
re-located sediment at the top of the section.

Sandy sediments, alluvial estuaries sand-aleurite are polymineralic. The main components are quartz from different sources (from 55% to 90% .vol), fragments of stones (10% to 35%) and a small amount of feldspar and mica (1% to 15%). Debris of metamorphic rocks mainly occupied. Heavy minerals with high concentrations are magnetite, ilmenite, zircon and amphibole. Ilmenites present on all alluvial, but the largest concentration is situated at Hai Hau. Clay minerals are: hydromica, kaolinite, montmorilonite and chlorite, constitutes the main combinations: hydromica - kaolinite, hydromica - kaolinite - montmorilonite, hydromica - kaolinite - chlorite.
